We Were Liars by E.Lockhart

Yay!!! It's time for another one of those pointless book reviews.
Today's catch is We Were Liars by E.Lockhart.

When I read this book it easily passed as one of the most amazing stories I had come across. I went around telling people the story, quite aware that nobody understood anything. I mean at the end of the day a good book is the one that leaves you sleepless and restless isn't it? And boy did this book give me a sleepless night. I remember reading it before going to sleep which mind you is never a good idea and ended up breaking my resolve of not crying. Seriously if you go into this book without having any expectations, it really surprises you with its ending. If I had to categorize it into a genre, I mean obviously its Young-Adult Fiction but it easily falls under the mystery genre as well.

We Were Liars is the story of Cadence Sinclair, whom you will start to hate from the very first sentence. But don't worry its part of her irresistible charm that keeps you hooked onto her story. SO Cadence is rich and when I say rich I mean RICH. Her family the Sinclairs, if you hadn't guessed with that kind of a name, are obviously very very popular and rich. Cadence's riches are owed to her grandfather Harris Sinclair who is every bit the rich man you expect him to be. He owns Beechwood, this island where he has built a home for each of his three daughters and one for himself (called Clairmont) of course. Cadence's mother Penny is one of his daughters.

It's a proven fact that "All that glitters isn't gold" so the Sinclairs' life although seeming perfect and shiny isn't what they make it out to be. All of them have problems in their lives and Cadence too has her own fair share of issues.
The Sinclairs spend their summers on Beechwood island with their families.  Cadence along with her cousins- Mirren and Johnny, and Gat Patil (the cousin of her aunt's partner) together constitute of the Liars (hence the name of the novel). They together have the fun of their lives each summer. But this summer when Cadence is seventeen and returns to Beechwood island she notices that things are not the way she thought they would be. The liars appear distant and her grandfather is plagued with dementia. The old Clairmont is destroyed and Cadence despises the one that stands in its place now. Moreover, Cadence is missing a huge chunk of memory of what happened during her summer fifteen when she was injured.

Amidst all that is you -the reader and trust me when I say that Cadence is a hella unreliable character.  Your hand is held throughout the story making you think "Everything is going well, everything is gonna be ok" and then BAM the ending hits you. The writing style compels you into Cadence's world and reveals nothing till the end. If nothing else read this book for the sake of the ending and your life will be blessed. And for all those who are worried about how many pages of torture you gotta go through then its my pleasure to tell you the book is a whopping 277 pages. It's not much don't worry. And the way the story flies, you won't even feel a thing until its too late to come back.

With that, I leave you to your devices.
Introvert Out.
